Pennyroyal

Mentha pulegium

Pennyroyal is stimulating, revitalising and deodorising. It helps to calm skin that is dry and itchy.

It can be made into an infusion and added to bathwater and/or spritzed directly on to the skin. To make a pennyroyal infusion, pour 500ml boiling spring water over 250ml fresh leaves and leave to infuse for thirty minutes. Strain and pour the infusion into a dark glass bottle. Keep refrigerated and use within one week.

Pennyroyal is also a good insect repellent and a body spritz made from the infused leaves should help to keep fleas, mosquitoes, flies and other summer nuisances at bay.

Please note that while the suggestions above for infused pennyroyal leaves are safe to use, pennyroyal oil should be avoided due its toxicity.
